"Showing Their Scales" and "The Hockey Farmer"

We are pleased to introduce the works of local B.C. authors KP Wee and Farhan Devji to you:

"Showing Their Scales" contains three tales of lies, lust, and deception. These are short novels which deal with betrayal and revenge, with three main male characters and how they end up hurting the women in their lives.

"The Hockey Farmer" is a story about Logan Watt, who hails from Cochrane, Alberta, and has to decide whether to rehabilitate the legendary family farm or pursue an unlikely career in professional hockey. The story also shifts to Vancouver and contains numerous Vancouver Canucks references.

Ryan ruins Marcum's gem...

Shaun Marcum did his job on Saturday afternoon. B.J. Ryan didn't. And because of that, Marcum had nothing to show for his fine efforts.

Marcum, making his first start since being recalled from Triple-A, pitched shutout ball against the first-place Tampa Bay Rays, displaying the form he'd exhibited last summer and earlier this season, when he was among the AL's ERA leaders.

Lyle Overbay hit two homers (!!) and Alex Rios added an RBI double (after homering twice himself on Friday night), and the Jays carried that 3-0 lead into the ninth inning.

The ninth turned out to be disastrous, as Ryan hit a batter before giving up a home run. A walk followed, as well as a stolen base, before pinch-runner Fernando Perez, appearing in only his second big-league game, scored on second baseman Joe Inglett's error.

For Marcum, it was another fine outing versus the AL East-leading Rays. Prior to Saturday, he'd gone 2-0 with a 1.06 ERA in two starts and one relief outing against T-Bay.
