"Showing Their Scales" and "The Hockey Farmer"

We are pleased to introduce the works of local B.C. authors KP Wee and Farhan Devji to you:

"Showing Their Scales" contains three tales of lies, lust, and deception. These are short novels which deal with betrayal and revenge, with three main male characters and how they end up hurting the women in their lives.

"The Hockey Farmer" is a story about Logan Watt, who hails from Cochrane, Alberta, and has to decide whether to rehabilitate the legendary family farm or pursue an unlikely career in professional hockey. The story also shifts to Vancouver and contains numerous Vancouver Canucks references.

Land of Opportunity

On Saturday, I attended a workshop and got an interesting perspective from the instructor.

No, it had nothing to do with the workshop content, but rather about Canada.

The instructor contended that she was appreciative of immigrating here (from England) because it gave her so many opportunities. Granted, she would be the first to admit that she'd come in a totally different era, but nonetheless, she claimed that you could do whatever you wanted in Canada if you had a goal and strived for it.

I would be one who agreed with that kind of sentiment, which is why I refuse to listen to sob stories that people tend to offer up. I mean, if you worked hard, you could be successful in life. So every time someone tries to be negative or complain excessively, I don't really sympathize with him or her.

Oh, say, this non-story, for example, that made headlines in Canada this past week. Seriously, am I supposed to feel sorry for the individual?

Don't know what the house mates on the zonk think, but that's just my two cents.
